Cambridge and Peterborough Netball school finals
On Wednesday 21st May, a group of Year 6 children travelled to St Ivo Academy to take part in the Netball Finals for the whole of the Cambridge and Peterborough area. The children had qualified for this tournament as they won the three previous school and South Cambridge tournaments.
There were 19 schools at the event and it was a very competitive tournament with the standard of netball extremely high. The teams were split into 5 divisions and completed a round robin against the other schools. In our Division, we won every game convincingly and were put through to the next round against all the other division winners.
The children had been playing wonderful netball the whole afternoon and stepped up even further when we started the second division. We were playing against Milton Road, John Claire and St John’s. The first game against St John’s we unfortunately lost by one goal which was such a shame as we were very evenly matched. The second game was against John Claire who had beaten all the other teams convincingly. We played our best netball of the tournament and drew this game 2-2. The children were fantastic! Our final game was against Milton Road and we won this game by a number of goals.
These results meant we finished in 3rd place out of the 19 teams. Myself and the spectators were extremely proud of the children and, what made it all the more special, were the number of umpires who came and spoke to us after our matches to say what a polite and considerate group of children we had. I totally agree.
Well done to all that took part, a great achievement.
