Author Visit - Rhian Tracey
On Thursday this week, the children had the pleasure of hosting novelist Rhian Tracey, author of I, Spy: A Bletchley Park Mystery. Rhian shared her inspiration for the novel and provided valuable historical context about Bletchley Park, enriching the students' comprehension of the various roles involved in World War II efforts.
Rhian ran a whole school assembly for children from Year 2 to Year 6 and then did workshops for the classes in Year 5 and 6.
In the workshops, the students were given the opportunity to ask her questions. Rhian offered several insightful writing tips, including the importance of engaging the five senses to enrich writing content, utilising images of the settings they are writing about, and the benefits of writing outdoors to stimulate sensory descriptions. She encouraged students to write in the locations they are describing to enhance their descriptive skills.
We are excited to incorporate this inspiration into our English work and look forward to sharing our Year 6 writing pieces with Rhian, who is also keen to see and share the work produced by our pupils. This opportunity for the children to share their completed work with an author will provide them with a purpose for their writing which is the central starting point of any piece of work.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and took a lot from it to inspire them. It was an enjoyable day for children and adults alike.
