Cross Country Running Event at Wimpole Estate

On Wednesday 21st November 2024, a group of 49 children attended a cross-country running event at Wimpole Estate organised by the South Cambs School Sports Partnership.

The event consisted of eight races.  There was a girls and a boys race for years 3 ,4, 5 and 6 and each race was 2km long with around 200 children running in each race.

The setting was beautiful and we had perfect conditions as it wasn’t too cold and the sun was shining.

Every single child that took part ran amazingly well and gave their everything.  We were very proud of them as all of our children came well within the first half of runners and many of the children in the top 10.

Special mentions to Nicholas Walker (7th), Leah Haswell (7th), Dominic Martin (2nd), Eira Eagling (3rd), Lily Walton (7th), Bethan Clarke (8th), Anna Thompson (5th), Catherine Sampson (8th), Leo Martin (4th), Zac Morley (6th), Jemima Butcher (3rd), Suki Hathorn (5th).

Then a very special mention to Helena Eaves who managed to run half of the way with only one shoe and still managed to come 9th.  When her shoe came off she did not even flinch and continued to the end with just a soggy sock.  Well done Helena!

In additional to individual medals for the children who came in the top three, which were awarded on the day, there is a combined team award for the Year 5/6 races and for the Year 3/4 races.  Every child’s finishing positions are added together and the school with the lowest number in Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 will be the winners.

I am so pleased to tell you that we WON the Year 5/6 team award (the runners up were Histon Park school) and we came RUNNERS UP in the Year 3/4 team award (the winners were Histon Park School). What a fantastic achievement.  Well done to all the children for this brilliant, combined effort.

Thank you to all the children for being amazing and thank you to our parents/carers for helping transport the children to and from the event.
