Intra School Cross Country Competition

HIBPS Intra School Cross Country Competition

Friday 13th January 2023

On Friday, the whole school competed in year group teams in a cross-country competition to earn House Points for their respective Houses. On site at the school, Mr Fallon and Mr Gilbert set out a fantastic course around the whole school grounds to ensure that the children had a safe and clear route to follow.

It was clear on the day, due to the fantastic performances of the children, that Mr Fallon had prepared the children well for the event through their ongoing P.E. lessons. In addition, the teachers support of the children’s running development through their Golden 5 active breaks throughout each week, had further ensured that all were able to take part.

You may be interested to know that your children, so far this academic year, have run over 4,000km (around 2,500miles), which is a staggering amount.

Each race was hotly contested but there was a particularly tight sprint battle between Eban and Derek in the Year 5 boys’ event. In the Year 1 boys’ event, Leo, who finished in silver medal position, did so with only one shoe for most of the way. Thankfully, the errant shoe was retrieved from the thieving mud after the race finished!

The children on the day supported each other brilliantly, cheering and encouraging other children to accomplish their best and helping children to reach new heights and enable all to feel like they had achieved something positive from the experience.

Teaching staff were brilliant: they also ran the course, helping all children to achieve. Mr Newman even led the groups around the course throughout the day and there was even a sprint finish between him and Mr Staplehurst!

Well done to all the children and congratulations to the medal winners below.
