Quick Sticks Hockey Tournament

Today, HIBPS took two teams of Year 6 pupils to Wilberforce Road to compete in quick sticks hockey. The children most importantly enjoyed the whole morning, despite the weather, and it was clear to see their progression of skills during the course of the series of matches. Taking part were 20 ‘large’ schools from across South Cambridgeshire. Both teams won all their matches in their respective leagues and went through to the premier division finals as part of the top four winning teams across the leagues. Many goals were scored with some outstanding attacking, shooting and defensive play performances cheered on by one of the team members from the sidelines – Charlotte!

In the finals, both teams played their very best and supported each other throughout. One team won all their matches bar the last one, which they tied after a penalty goal was awarded against them, meaning that they were the tied winners of the event. It was a superb match and extremely tight, with clear talent from both teams. On recount of the goals in the finals however, they were just pipped at the post to come in second, with the other Histon team finishing just behind in bronze position.

The children’s feedback to the organisers was for more hockey events as they thoroughly enjoyed the experience including the fierce competition!

If your child is interested in developing their skills in hockey, following their learning in P.E. this half term, there are two main Cambridge hockey clubs: Cambridge City Hockey Club based at Wilberforce Road and Cambridge South Hockey Club at Long Road. We look forward to next year’s hockey players keeping up the good work!

Finally, a huge thank you to Mr Fallon and to all the parents who transported and supported the children at the event.

Mrs Beal
