Regional Finals Girls’ Football

Regional Finals Girls’ Football

On Friday 27th January, the H.I.B.P.S. Year 6 girls’ football team travelled to St Ives to compete in the EFSA U11 County Cup Finals.

The matches ran throughout the morning with the children participating in three pool games and then a semi-final.  In the first match against Somersham, Erin scored two goals and Carys scored one, giving the team a robust start to the tournament with a 3-0 victory. This performance was swiftly followed with a game against Kings School, where Livia and Carys both scored to secure the team a 2-0 triumph. The final pool match was against St. Andrews; this time, Erin and Emily managed to get the ball over the line - leading to a 2-1 win. Rosie, as goalkeeper, made some historic saves to ensure the team made it through as winners of Pool 1.

In the semi final match against Westfield School, the team battled strongly but were overcome by a lucky goal from Westfield. However, the team did not capitulate and continued to battle with an exceptional piece of linking play which nearly secured them the goal of the tournament. Despite appearing to be the stronger team on the day, they could not manage to get the ball over the line.

Mr Fallon and Mrs Beal were very proud of all the girls, who took up each of their respective roles with a determination and zeal which no one could fault. Despite their disappointment to not reach the final, the girls secured a magnificent 3rd place and represented H.I.B.P.S. extremely well.

Finally, a huge thank you to all the parents who travelled to St. Ives to support the girls in their football development.

Mrs Beal
