Cambridge and Peterborough Netball school finals
Wed 21 May 2025On Wednesday 21st May, a group of Year 6 children travelled to St Ivo Academy to take part in the Netball Finals for the whole of the Cambridge and Peterborough area. The children had qualified for this tournament as they won the three previous school and South Cambridge tournaments.
There were 19 schools at the event and it was a very competitive tournament with the standard of netball extremely high. The teams were split into 5 divisions and completed a round robin against the other schools. In our Division, we won every game convincingly and were put through to the next round against all the other division winners.
The children had been playing wonderful netball the whole afternoon and stepped up even further when we started the second division. We were playing against Milton Road, John Claire and St John’s. The first game against St John’s we unfortunately lost by one goal which was such a shame as we were very evenly matched. The second game was against John Claire who had beaten all the other teams convincingly. We played our best netball of the tournament and drew this game 2-2. The children were fantastic! Our final game was against Milton Road and we won this game by a number of goals.
These results meant we finished in 3rd place out of the 19 teams. Myself and the spectators were extremely proud of the children and, what made it all the more special, were the number of umpires who came and spoke to us after our matches to say what a polite and considerate group of children we had. I totally agree.
Well done to all that took part, a great achievement.

Netball Shield Finals
Thu 24 Apr 2025On Thursday 24th April, a group of Year 6 pupils went to Comberton Village College to take part in the South Cambridge schools netball finals. The team were playing for the shield and for the possibility of qualifying for the School Games finals in June.
There were 16 teams participating and we were put in Pool A with 7 other teams. The standard of all the teams was very high as all teams had won the previous two schools competitions so the children had to work very hard in every game.
Our children played brilliantly and won every game in their pool. They have been practising their shooting and this showed as they were so accurate.
This meant that in our final game we were playing for first place against Swavesey (the winners of Pool B). The game was highly competitive and very physical. Our children battled and persevered and started to score goals ending up winning 5-1 and winning the whole tournament.
It was such an achievement for the children as they gave their everything and played extremely well together and were so encouraging of each other throughout. I was very proud of them all and am excited to take the children to the school games finals in June.
Thank you to all the parents/carers who transported the children to and from the event and who supported. Thank you to Mrs Thompson for popping along with little Theo to be our cheer squad.
Well done again to all the children, what a lovely afternoon had by all!

Netball Plate Finals
Thu 03 Apr 2025On Thursday 3rd April, a group of Year 6 children travelled to a very sunny Comberton Village College to take part in the netball finals after qualifying through the first two rounds.
The competition consisted of 15 schools, so the competition was fierce. We were split into different groups to start with and we played all the teams in our group. Histon Brook started off strong and won all the games in their group and did not concede one goal. They were brilliant.
The winners of each group then went into Pool 1 to play each other. The teams in the pool were Swavesey, Trumpington Park, Histon Brook and Hardwick.
We started by playing Hardwick and Camille couldn't miss and we won 10-0. The next game was against fellow Meridian school Trumpington Park. Again, all of the Histon players were amazing, and we won this game 2-0. Our last game was against Swavesey. Swavesey had also won all their games so far so we were playing for the tournament win. Histon couldn't have played any better! Every player was defending tightly, moving brilliantly and shooting accurately. We won this game 7-0 which made us tournament champions.
What a fantastic afternoon with wonderful children whose teamwork and positively was evident.
Really well done to all the players and thank you to the parents who helped transport the children to and from the event and who came to support.

Tag Rugby Tournament
Thu 27 Mar 2025On Wednesday 26th March, two teams of children from Year 5/6 attended the Big Schools Year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby Competition, hosted at Shelford Rugby Club by the South Cambs School Sports Partnership. Split into two halves and playing on separate sides of the tournament, both teams played in a round robin of matches, competing phenomenally well against other local teams. With individuals in both teams producing side-steps and solo runs that even Jason Robinson would be proud of, it was an exciting afternoon. Demonstrating an attacking flair, Team A played on the front foot, looking to exploit the spaces which their opponents left on the wings - only just missing out on the play-off places after just 1 loss in 5 matches. Equally, Team B showed our strength in depth, playing just as aggressively, winning their half of the tournament, after making it five wins from five games, and scoring a total of 21 tries. Adding to this, they can be particularly proud of how they represented the school's values, with individuals being highlighted for their teamwork and fair play.

The day itself was excellent and really well organised. It was great to see the children so enthusiastic and engaged during the activities and experience coding in a purposeful way. We're really thankful to Arm for the opportunity to work with them and to be able to offer such valuable experiences and opportunities to the children at our schools.

Feast week programme design
Mon 10 Mar 2025As part of this year's Feast Week, we would like to invite children of both village primary schools to design a front cover for the magazine programme. Last year, the poster for the village fireworks was created by children from the community and we would like to do something similar for the Feast. Entries should be no larger than A4 and can be created using any 2D materials. There is no set theme so we are looking forward to seeing what the children design!
Please hand in any entries (with the child's full name, year group, class and age clearly written on the back) to the school office by Friday 25th April.
Thank you and happy designing!
