• Year 4 Educational visit to Cambridge Botanical Gardens

  Year 4 Educational visit to Cambridge Botanical Gardens on Friday 30th June “There were loads of plants from different plants and regions to see in the Gardens” Max Clements (4JB) The Year 4 children's trip to Cambridge Botanic Gardens was not only a memorable experience but also a valuable extension of their Science and Geography learning. The observational walk allowed them to apply their knowledge of plant structures, adaptations, and life cycles by closely examining the various specimens in their natural habitat. They could identify different plant parts, observe pollinators in action, and make connections between the plants' characteristics and their survival strategies. Exploring the greenhouses provided them with a hands-on opportunity to study plants from different environments, reinforcing their learning about Biomes and particularly the rainforest.

• Year 3-4 Mixed Dynamos Cricket Wednesday 21st June 2023

  On Wednesday, HIBPS fielded one team of girls and boys at the Mixed Dynamos Cricket Competition, held at Sawston. The team, captained by Noah, were exemplary throughout, learning from each game and focusing on how they could help the team and improve personally. Each of them supported each other and worked together in each match. In fact, their great sportspersonship, won them several nominations from other teams for the Spirit of the Games award. Over the course of the day, 12 teams played, with the teams split into two leagues.

   

  The first match, which was against Linton Heights, was a close game (Linton finished in second at the end of the day) but with fours from Jessica, Noah, Harry and Michael the scoreboard kept ticking over. The team fielded exceptionally well with five wickets taken, which added five points each time to HIBPS team’s score. This was the determining factor in winning this first match 88 to 34.

   

  In the second match, against Thriplow, the cricketers showed an example of lean bowling with 19 dot balls bowled by our bowlers, with Hamish and Jessica bowling maiden overs. In batting, the 4s (hit by Hamish, Harry, Noah, Michael, Toby and Jessica) came again, but this time, the batters were also producing 6s (hit by Harry, Jack, Noah, Michael). This team effort produced the second win 85 v 35.

   

  For the third match, against The Meadow School, 4s and 6s were the order of the day as the batters really hit form. The team hit seven 6s and thirteen 4s! Zac and Dorothy contributed with two 6s, two 4’s and one 4 respectively. The batters worked tactically to place their hits, especially when taking a free hit so that they maximised their scores to achieve a huge score of 140 v 25.

   

  Against Trumpington Park, in the fourth match of the day, Noah and Michael continued with 6s with wicket balls from Bethany Noah, Hamish. In total thirteen 4s were hit by the batters leading to the best score of the day 143 v 54.

  In the final match of the day, against Petersfield B, Dorothy bowled a maiden over, with Bethany producing three dot balls. Noah bowled brilliantly with two wicket balls in a row in a maiden over. A maiden over was also bowled by Hamish, with wickets also taken in Hamish’s and Toby’s overs. The whole team were on fire in the field, ensuring that runs were really hard for the other team to score. In batting, 4s were achieved by Michael (three 4s), Hamish (and a six), Jack (four 4s), Jessica (three 4s), Toby (two 4s and 2 6s), Zac (two 4s). Their combined efforts led to a score of 127 v 20.

   

  Finally, a huge thank you goes out to all the parents/carers that attended or made it possible for their children and others to attend today’s sports fixture.

   

  LET’S GET MORE BROOK CHILDREN PLAYING CRICKET!

  In Year 5-6, there are more cricket competition opportunities within the sports calendar, so we would love to encourage more of our children (especially girls) at the Brook to join the local team at Histon Cricket Club and would encourage children to join the Dynamos Cricket at Histon as this is a really inclusive way to enter cricket, especially those new to the sport.
