  • Cross Country Event at Wimpole

Wed 30 Nov 2022 Mrs Beal

Big Schools’ Cross-Country at Wimpole Hall 30th November 2022

As part of our ongoing relationship with South Cambs School Sports Partnership, on Wednesday, we fielded a 48-strong team of cross-country runners from Year 3 to Year 6. All of the children performed extremely well, running the distance of 1.6km to the very best of their abilities, against around 120 fellow competitors in each race. Their determination and enthusiasm were intoxicating and made all the adults present - teaching staff and parents - incredibly proud of their resilience and exemplary sporting ethics. An example of this was the ‘Spirit of the Games’ award for determination, which was presented to Connie in Year 3. Initially, she was leading her race but then took a wrong turn, however, she was undeterred and still managed to secure a 15th spot out of the 120 runners she was competing alongside.

Following on from the successes of last year, Mia won the Year 6 girls’ race with Lucy and Carys coming in 2nd and 4th place respectively along with Millie making it into the top ten, in 8th place. In addition, James, in the Year 6 boys’ event, also took the gold spot with Noah following in 7th and Benji who finished in 10th. Eban, in the Year 5 boys’ race, also took the gold medal with Derek coming in 2nd and closely followed by William in 4th. Over in the Year 5 girls’ contest, Amelie seized the bronze medal. Whilst in the Year 3 girls’ event, the excitement continued as Anna placed in silver medal position, with Ella in 6th and Catherine in 8th place. The Year 4 girls’ team presented themselves strongly as four of the team of six placed in the top ten as Naomi took the bronze with Molly following close by in 4th, Jemima in 5th and Annabel who finished in 7th. For the boys in Year 4, Zac ran well to place 8th with Michael just outside the top ten in 11th spot.

A huge thank you goes to Mr Fallon for preparing the children, to Mrs Thompson, who managed the ever-changing event organisation, to Mr Newman for his ongoing support, the teachers at the Brook Primary who actively get the children running throughout the week during their Golden Five breaks and all the parents who supported their children to prepare, cheered them on, transported them to the event and who even helped to warm and stretch them!

Look out for photos of the event in the local Cambridge press.

Further cross-country opportunities for our children to take part in as we head into 2023, will be announced shortly.

  • Year 1 Grandparents' Tea Party

    Tue 29 Nov 2022

On Monday 28th November as part of their 'Changes in Living Memory' learning Year 1 children invited grandparents and other older members of our community in to support them with their learning. The learning covered aspects such as communication, transport, fashion, music, technology and toys. We asked our visitors to bring in artefacts, photographs and games that they may have had when they were children.
Not all children were able to have a grandparent with them but all the children were teamed up with a 'grandparent for the afternoon'.

We all had the most amazing afternoon. A huge thank you to all our visitors who brought in toys from their childhood(some of these were over 60 years old), games they played with when they were young and photos and memorabilia from their childhood.

The children prepared a range of excellent historical questions to ask.

One of the highlights was having the opportunity to compare Mr Sharp's old Morris Minor with Mr Watson's electrical Beetle.

An enormous thank you to all our visitors for sharing their amazing memories with us. A fantastic afternoon and learning experience were shared by everyone!

  • English Challenge

Mon 28 Nov 2022 Mrs Sparks

On Monday 28th November, four Year 6 children participated in the final of the Cambridgeshire English Challenge. The children worked brilliantly together as a team and completed 3 challenging rounds: team round, puzzle round and relay round. Overall, they came an impressive second place, and just one point behind first place! A big well done to them all!

  • New to Football Competition at Linton Village College

Thu 24 Nov 2022 Shona Inman

On Thursday 24th November 2023, a group of Year 3 and Year 4 pupils went to Linton Village College to take part in a football competition.  The event was designed for children who do not currently play in a football team but enjoy the team aspect of the game.

The children participated in numerous small-sided games of football, focusing on teamwork, perseverance and positive attitude.

The effort the boys gave during the event was commendable and they all enjoyed the experience.  Well done!

Thank you to Mr Fallon for accompanying the children on the day and to all the parents/carers who helped with transport and supported.

  • Anti Bullying Dance- Year 5 and 6

    Sun 13 Nov 2022

Bullying affects millions of lives and can leave us feeling hopeless, but it doesn’t have to be this way as we can challenge it, we can change it. Here, at  Histon and Impington Brook Primary School, our Year 5 and 6 children have been choreographing Anti-Bullying dances to demonstrate that we can reach out and support each other to stop bullying. Together we can be the change we want to see. We can all reflect on our own behaviour and set positive examples.

At the end of break we had the opportunity to perform our Anti-Bullying Dances which we had all worked hard on. We were especially excited to perform to the Reception classes. We really enjoyed creating our own motifs, especially the lifts as they were more complex.

    Marco and Maya 5EP.

We were anxious at first however once the audience arrived, we became confident and proud to show the school our motifs. It was so exciting performing to the whole school that we wanted to do it again and again.

     Elsa and Charlotte 5AS

Performing in front of everyone was a great opportunity to showcase all our hard work. Seeing the whole dance come together was so rewarding. The theme of our dance was Anti-Bullying so we showed through the medium of dance how we can all support and help each other.

    Thea and Elise 6HB

Thank you to all our year 5 and year 6 dancers for performing such an important and incredible dance display.

  • Year 5 and Panathlon

    Sun 13 Nov 2022

Five pupils from Years 5 and 6 had the opportunity to take part in the South Cambridgeshire Panathlon Event at Comberton Village College this week. The group took part in 7 multi-skills events including: curling, target practise, basketball and bowling.  The children had a fabulous time and received a medal for their participation. Well done to Kieran, Ethan, William, Riley and Scarlet.  A big shout out to Ethan and William’s mums for coming to the rescue and helping with transport at the last minute!

  • Canary Cup Football Tournament

Thu 10 Nov 2022 Shona Inman

On Thursday 10th November, a group of Year 6 children travelled to Northstowe Secondary College to take part in the Canary Cup football tournament run by Norwich Football Club. We entered two mixed teams into the competition and both teams were fantastic all afternoon and represented the school brilliantly.

The Red Team won all of their group games which meant they finished top and moved into the semi-final against Fulbourn.  Despite constant pressure, the game went to penalties.  All of the squad were confident and put themselves forward with the first 5 all scoring.  After winning the penalties, the team moved through to the final.  The final again saw us dominate and goals from Lucas and Erin saw us victorious in front of great support from parents and the players from the White Team.

Our White Team played three games in the group stage.  They drew one game, lost one game and won one game with Tom Heath scoring our two goals and outstanding goalkeeping from Nathan Dunn. The team did so well and finished as runners up in their group. What made us all the more proud of the team was the feedback from the parents about their sportsmanship and encouragement.  One of our parents said, “The support the White Team showed on the side lines through the semi-final and final, including rousing renditions of 'Sweet Caroline' and 'Football's Coming Home' was a pleasure to witness. Their genuine joy at their school friends' success couldn't be hidden, and to have the White Team rush onto the pitch as the final whistle blew and celebrate with the Red Team was lovely. Both teams were a credit to the school.”

Well done to all those that took part and thank you to the parents/carers for all their support.

  • Fireworks spectacular!

Sun 06 Nov 2022 Jonathan Newman

A huge thank you is owed to the Histon and Impington Firework committee for the brilliant event that they organised on Saturday 5th November for Bonfire Night. After 3 years without a display it was so lovely to see so many familiar faces from the Brook School, the Park School and IVC having such a brilliant time.

The fireworks were spectacular and it was a joy to see so many happy children and parents/carers there. Thank you to Dan and his team.

Another huge thank you is owed to those parents/carers from the Brook School who helped to either make or sell refreshments on the evening or to set up or clear up before and after the event.

As you will be aware profits from the event are shared between the school and the support of parents/carers at these events is hugely appreciated and show what an amazing community Histon and Impington is!
